Central continues to sell The Welcome Table cookbook. Favorite recipes you've enjoyed through the years prepared by your friends can now be yours. Books / CD's will be available for purchase Sunday morning in the Commons.
FOG takes place on the first Saturday of each month starting at 7:00 p.m. Participants bring a bottle of wine to share for the tasting and general price range should be 8 to 12 dollars per bottle. Couples can do two of those or one bottle in the 15 to 25 dollar range. The host/hostess provides heavy hors d'oeuvres or sometimes a meal. Contributions to the table are welcome. The God is Still Speaking silent auction continues so bring your checkbooks and items for auction. All are welcome to FOG, church members and friends of the church and non-drinkers.
The yearly church calendar is posted on the web site. Any changes or additions need to be e-mailed into Tara McCrary ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ). Minutes of all Council, Board and Committee meetings (except Personnel) are also available on our Web site. For those of us who prefer to read a paper copy, they are posted in a notebook on the credenza in the Commons. Do look for them and ask any questions that may arise.
Two Saturdays every month Central provides our bus (or van) and a driver so that families in Atlanta can visit a family member in prison. Georgia's prisons are far from Atlanta, with no convenient public transportation. Early on Saturday morning, passengers are already waiting when we meet up with other church vans and drivers who will caravan with us that day.
The first Saturday of the month we go to Oglethorpe, Ga. (southwest of Macon). The third Saturday we go to Hardwick Prison in Milledgeville. If you can give a Saturday to be a driver, please sign up on the bulletin board next to the main door, or contact the church office.
Although outdoor water bans are a start, over 70% of water consumption happens within the home. Read more here for some water conservation tips from Conserve Water Georgia or go to their website at (http://www.conservewatergeorgia.net/). For more information on conserving other types of energy, visit Georgia Interfaith and Power and Light at www.gipl.org.
"This is our hope: That the children born today may have a bit of green grass
under their bare feet, a breath of clean air to breathe,
a patch of blue water to sail upon,
and a whale on the horizon to set them dreaming."
These words from Jacques Cousteau sum up why we must consider the environment in our children's legacy. Central Congregational voted earlier this year to support an environmental audit of our facility and its usage. As one part of a much larger effort of Christians worldwide, Central has committed to reducing our carbon footprint and embracing a wise stewardship of God's creation. Contact us to become involved with the Green Team and join the solution. All are welcome.
With "Let there be Light!" the Creator begins to turn chaos into a habitable world. Sunlight is the ultimate source of almost all the energy we use, as even fossil fuels come from ancient plants and algae. But the first day of creation is only complete with darkness and night, an “off” cycle of rest and cooling. Today, curbing energy waste is the largest, most economical step toward restoring the ecology of the planet. With serious effort, it has been estimated that North Americans could live as well as we do now on one-fourth to one-tenth the energy we now use.

Within four months nearly 64,000 UCC members joined together against the Iraq War. Last week, the Rev. Linda Jaramillo and John H. Thomas delivered this message to the offices of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and House Minority Leader David Boehner. At the White House, they tried to get a face-to-face meeting with the Office of Public Liaison and were instead arrested.
Their campaign will not end until the war ends, so there is still a chance to sign the petition and have your voice heard. Go to http://ga3.org/campaign/100kforpeace/forward to sign if you haven't already. Also, take action now to support the Refugee Crisis in Iraq Act by going to http://capwiz.com/churchworld/issues/alert/?alertid=10299761&type=CO and letting your representative know that we must support the 4.2 million Iraqis who have been displaced! Another world is possible.
